How to change Sportster fuses

I have a 2002 Hugger 883. I swapped out the wimpy moped horn with a Bonneville, GET OUT OF THE WAY horn and heard a popping noise. I obviously blew a fuse. I received misleading to no advice online as to whether fuses exist or where they were if they happened to exist. So, out of the kindness of my heart, I will share the answer to anyone in a similar situation. While you’re here, check out some of my airbrush or theology. 😎

First, you don’t need to lift the seat. The fuses are immediately behind the triangular cover next to the battery. The triangular cover is actually attached directly to the fuse box.

The fuse box is pressed into the frame, just wiggle it out and flip it over. See all those wires going in the plastic container in your hand? The fuses are hidden inside.

The four 15 amp fuses are hidden inside the plastic container. There’s another square electrical component that you can slide off to get better access to extract the fuses.

Don’t mess with thing referred to as a “fuse block” attached to the fender under the seat. The fuses exist. They are closer than you think.

God Bless

    Thanks so much for the timely information…Seems that no one wanted to “share” (a churchy term, of which among others, I’ve grown quite weary) this information. I have recently taken ownership of a very slick (almost showroom) 2000, 1200 C “Special Edition” HD and have no manual for it. There are many downloads offered, but I don’t feel safe getting on the sites as some have obviously been corrupted by some live “demon.” I believe in preaching “Jesus Christ and Him crucified,” and stress intense Bible study, as this is the clear directive that we were left with. I seldom get to preach in ‘church houses” and have seen miracles manifested in the missions, and the like in those that no one else would want in their church house. This was in tandem with their total surrender to God through Jesus Christ. The Holy Spirit moves as He wills. Numbers 6:24 + to you and yours.

    • It’s odd how hard it was to find the info on fuse replacement. Some were trying to charge $45 for the answer. The 1200 Special Addition HD is a nice bike- forward pegs/linkage, spoked front wheel and very fast. Thanks for laying the big Old Testament blessing on me and my family. For those too lazy to look it up-
      Numbers 6:24 “The Lord bless you
      and keep you;
      25 the Lord make his face shine on you
      and be gracious to you;
      26 the Lord turn his face toward you

      and give you peace. ”’

  4. Gordon,
    You’re entirely welcome. The “brotherhood” is an awesome thing, big family, bigger Father. Hope this article put you back on the road.

  5. Hello Brother in the Lord,
    First let me say, thank you for your ministry. Though not a member, I am a CMA supporter here in Reno NV. My 2002 Sportster is dead in the water and I was researching to see if there could be fuses involved, which is how I came across your blog. I will use your instructions to check it out this week-end when I get to my bike. Have Blesses Day!1 Shalom, Mary
